Your used laser should, at the very least meet minimum standards for clinical use in a medical office. This is a frequent topic here at AlmaCPO.com. We published a checklist in our recent post A Laser Used for Hair Removal (A LASER USED FOR HAIR REMOVAL) and urge you to read that article, too. Now, if it sounds like we’re repeating ourselves, it’s because we are.

We do so because we believe that every cosmetic laser should be safe to use on living tissue.

Furthermore, we believe that every cosmetic laser treatment should add to our industry’s reputation and result in a satisfied consumer. That said we still face the fact that some used laser dealers or others might make claims about efficacy or safety that, well, aren’t entirely accurate.

So let’s evaluate some facts about cosmetic lasers in general and a used laser in particular. First of all, not every laser is suitable for resale. Some lasers are, unfortunately, in such dire need of repair that restoring them is cost prohibitive. Some of these lasers can be made to function temporarily, perhaps long enough for a 30 Day Warranty to run out. Some can be rigged to function a while longer. But only a complete refurbishment by a technician trained on the device can earn the word certified.

That said, efficacy and safety go hand-in-hand when it comes to a used laser. Scientific research such as white papers and clinical studies support a device operating at manufacturer’s specifications, not an used laser held together with imitation parts and desperate wishes. Which used laser do you want to add to your practice?
